1. Recording GP Trainee Consultations
Our practice is proud to help train the next generation of GPs. As part of their learning, GP trainees may sometimes record consultations. These recordings help them develop their skills and allow their supervisors to give constructive feedback.
We want to be open, honest, and clear about how this works. Your comfort and privacy are our priority.
2. Why Do Trainees Record Consultations?
Recording consultations is a valued part of GP training. It helps trainees improve their communication and clinical skills and allows supervisors to assess and support them effectively. Recordings are used only for training, education or assessment and are watched only by authorised GP trainers and exam assessors.
3. Your Consent is Essential
We will always ask for your permission before any recording takes place.
· Saying no will not affect your care in any way.
· You will be asked again after the consultation to confirm you are still happy for it to be used.
· You can change your mind at any time – even days or weeks later – and we will delete the recording.
For children, a parent or guardian must provide consent.
4. What Will (and won’t) Be Recorded
· Recordings capture only the conversation between you and the doctor.
· No intimate examinations will ever be filmed.
· Minor adjustments such as rolling up a sleeve are allowed, but nothing involving the removal of clothing that would expose intimate areas.
5. How are Recordings Kept Safe?
Your privacy is very important to us.
· All recordings are stored securely and confidentially, just like your medical records.
· Only approved trainers or exam assessors will see your recording.
6. How Long are Recordings Kept?
Recordings are kept only for as long as needed for training or assessment.
· If used for exams, they are deleted on the day exam results are published.
· If uploaded but not submitted for an exam, they are deleted within 26 weeks.
· Recordings used only within the practice for training are also deleted within 26 weeks.
You can ask for you recording to be deleted at any time.
7. Your Rights
You always have the right to:
· Decline being recorded
· Withdraw consent at any time
· Ask for the recording to be deleted
· Ask questions about how recordings are used and stored
None of these decisions will ever affect the care you receive.
